Analyst in Defense Acquisition

The analyst will focus on the Department of Defense acquisition of weapons, equipment and services for the armed forces of the United States. The analyst will monitor issues such as current cost-over run problems in major weapons systems and help Congress in its oversight of defense acquisition programs, polices, and procedures. Duties will include examining recurring issues in defense acquisition, such as cost growth and delays in weapons programs; trade offs between technological innovation and the cost and speed of development; the advantages and disadvantages of sole source as opposed to competitive contracting; and other major defense acquisition policy issues.
Duties of the analyst include providing objective, expert public policy analysis and consultation to congressional committees, Members, and staff; including preparing objective, non-partisan, and innovative analytical studies on public policy issues of national or internationalsignificance; providing personal assistance as an expert on public policy issues throughout the legislative process, including analyzing, appraising, and evaluating legislative proposals; and participating in or leading multidisciplinary team research projects and seminars. The Analyst is also expected to develop over time the skills necessary to provide public policy and legislative analysis and consultation to congressional committees, Members, and staff at increasingly sophisticated levels.
